What is the real difference between imported and domestic smart lighting modules?

 It is not a simple good-or-bad comparison. They represent two different business models.

① Certification KNX is an open standard, but compliance is another matter. Certified devices are interchangeable across different manufacturers. Uncertified ones may “communicate”, yet only within their own proprietary ecosystem. Some domestic products also pass official KNX certification.

② Function Completeness Many claim KNX support, yet the available parameters for the same function can differ greatly. Imported modules are developed for global projects, with comprehensive function blocks. Domestic versions prioritize commonly used functions to meet basic needs, but lack options for special scenarios.

③ Will it still be available in three years? This point is easily overlooked. Imported models feature long lifecycles; variants released five years ago are still in supply today. Domestic lines iterate rapidly. A model may be discontinued within three years, requiring program rewrites and rewiring for replacements.

④ Who responds quickly when faults occur? This is the core advantage of domestic modules: fast support, flexible modifications and custom development. Imported products go through multi-layer agent channels, which cannot meet urgent demands.

Where does the price gap come from? It is not merely brand premium. Certification, stocking cycles and agent margins all add to the cost. Part of the lower price of domestic modules comes from cutting these overheads.

Therefore, the judging criterion is not the country of origin. The key question: can you replace this module if it fails?

Choose imported modules for long-term deployments over 10 years, hard replacement conditions, and multi-vendor integration — they offer stability. Domestic modules work well for tight schedules, custom requirements and on-site technical support. The real risk is not choosing domestic products, but being locked into a single supplier.
