5 Common KNX Commissioning Errors | Practical Solutions Here
With 10 years of KNX project experience, I have encountered these 5 errors over 100 times, each costing engineers half a day of on-site troubleshooting.

Error 1: The gateway fails to recognize online devices
Mostly caused by wiring issues. Check if 120Ω terminal resistors are installed at both ends of the TP bus; the maximum length of each main bus section shall not exceed 1000m, and branch lines shall not exceed 30m. Test the circuit with a KNX cable tester for confirmation.

Error 2: Some lights do not respond after scene switching
Usually due to group address conflicts. Open the ETS software and check for overlapping group address assignments. This issue is most common in multi-person collaborative projects. It is highly recommended to prepare an address planning sheet in Excel in advance.

Error 3: Dimming is unsmooth with obvious flickering/jumping
Check the dimming curve settings. Schneider C-BUS defaults to a linear curve, which is not compatible with LED lights. It is recommended to switch to a logarithmic curve.

Error 4: ETS program download keeps loading/spinning
Mainly caused by USB driver issues. Try another computer, or upgrade ETS to version 5.7 or above, which greatly improves USB compatibility.
Error 5: Remote access disconnection
Check the router NAT settings and ensure the default port 3671 of the KNX IP gateway is open. If using a 4G router, replace it with a dedicated line with a fixed IP.
