NP16164_01SL Schneider Unica Range KNX Wall Station with Eight Keys Silver Status LEDs Bus Coupler
The NP16164_01SL is the eight-key Unica KNX wall station in the silver finish — the neutral grey silver that is the most widely specified of the four finishes because it sits beside stainless steel and aluminium without drawing attention to itself. Eight keys on an 86 millimetre plate is the largest configuration in the family, and it is a genuinely capable device rather than a switch plate: the wall station contains its own bus coupling unit, takes approximately 18 milliamperes from the KNX line with no mains connection, connects through a bus connecting terminal, and is commissioned in ETS5 or higher.
The face is a uniform plane when the room is idle, with the key symbols produced only by the backlighting using the prefabricated foils supplied with the device. The status LEDs are available in cool white and warm white, with brightness set separately for normal mode and night mode. A proximity function can wake the symbols as the panel is approached.

Where a neutral eight-key plate is repeated across many rooms, the risk is not technical but procedural: a plate labelled for one room and fitted in another works perfectly and misleads the occupant. The symbols actually used, the layout convention, and the group addresses all need to be recorded against the room number.
Because the finish is neutral, it is easy to source frames in large quantities, but the frame still has to match the panel in surface as well as colour — a gloss frame against a matte plate is visible even on a pale finish. The proximity function should be enabled in circulation areas and disabled in bedrooms, and the night brightness should be set by looking at the plate in darkness.
Where a project uses several key counts, the eight-key version is normally confined to the rooms that genuinely need it, which keeps the remaining rooms simpler to operate and easier to document.
- Office developments — the largest application, where a neutral eight-key plate is specified for the rooms that carry the most functions, while simpler rooms use the four- and six-key versions of the same design.
- Hotels — used in meeting rooms and public areas where lighting, curtains, and blinds are operated from one position.
- Healthcare buildings — applied in treatment rooms and theatres where several lighting groups and blinds have to be controlled from a single clean device.
- Universities — specified in lecture theatres where the lighting, projection screen, and blinds are grouped.
- Control rooms — in transport and utility buildings where several systems are operated from one position.
The neutral finish allows the same part to be used across all of these environments without changing the appearance of the installation.
