C2E621201_MB_C1 Schneider Matt Black 86mm KNX Heating Cooling Room Control Setpoint Screen HVAC Panel Unit
A black thermostat on a black wall is the least visible control in a room, and that is the entire commercial case for the C2E621201_MB_C1. The matt black front absorbs light instead of reflecting it, so the plate does not draw a rectangle on a dark lacquered or papered surface, and the colour screen becomes the only part of the device that is legible at a glance.
Electrically the unit is the standard Cuadro H room controller: a KNX TP participant fed from the bus at 21 to 30 volts, roughly 19 milliamperes at 24 volts, with the sensor and the control logic in the same housing. It drives fan coil units, underfloor circuits and fresh air dampers through group addresses rather than through a dedicated thermostat cable. That matters in a refurbishment where the existing four-core thermostat wiring has to be abandoned and the bus is already present.

Two things about a dark plate deserve attention before it is ordered.
Legibility. A matt black surface in a dim room reads well, but under direct sunlight the screen competes with the reflection. The installation rules already forbid mounting in direct sun for the sake of the temperature sensor, so the two constraints point the same way.
Wake-up function. The microwave-based wake-up reaches about 12 centimetres and, per the instructions, varies with ambient brightness and with the colour of the product. A black plate should therefore be checked in the finished room rather than assumed to behave like a white one on a bench.
The clearance rules are the same as for the rest of the family: 30 centimetres free in front and 3 centimetres below. The plate should be kept away from radiators, diffusers and air conditioning outlets, because the sensor reads the air where the plate is mounted, not the room average.
Matt black thermostats are chosen for interiors where the control is meant to recede.
- Hotel suites with dark timber panelling use them because a white plate would be the brightest object on the wall; the room controller sits beside a matching black keypad so the two read as one panel.
- Residential media rooms, studies and principal bedrooms apply them where the client has specified a dark scheme.
- Premium offices use them in boardrooms where the wall behind the presentation screen is dark and a white thermostat would catch the projector light.
- Bars, private dining rooms and boutique retail units specify them because the lighting is controlled and the interior is deliberately low key.
In each of these the practical caution is the same: the plate is a sensor, so its position on the wall belongs in the services drawing rather than in the interior designer's schedule, and any later joinery that closes the clearance will degrade the reading.
