Product Description
Product Overview

The NP16214_01BK_E1 is the eight-button thermostat variant of the Unica KNX wall device, finished in black. It is the point in the range where a wall panel takes over both the lighting and the room condition. Eight function keys sit on four rockers across three modules, and an integrated temperature sensor measures the room from the same position the occupant uses to change it — convenient, but also committing the control loop to that wall.

The thermostat application covers fan coil units, variable refrigerant flow systems, floor heating and ventilation, with heating and cooling as the declared application types and floor and room as the declared application. The device is supplied with its fixing frame and a set of twenty symbols, so labelling and mechanical fixing arrive together, and the surface reads as a uniform plane when the room is idle. Local signalling uses an amber LED and a white LED, and the panel carries built-in overcurrent protection, a varistor and reverse polarity protection.

System Integration Notes

On a combined panel the thermal decision comes first: the sensor is fixed to the wall where the panel is fixed, and the application allows the room reference to be taken from the internal sensor, an external sensor or a combination. On a wall beside glazing or above a radiator, this is not a refinement but a requirement.

The protective devices built into the panel are worth noting at commissioning because they protect the device, not the bus — a fault on the KNX line is still a fault on the KNX line. Eight keys across four rockers give sixteen distinguishable operations once short and long presses are in use, and the layout convention that survives handover is the one written down with the group addresses and applied without exception across rooms of the same type.

The installation depth of 29.3 millimetres should be checked against the box before the wall is closed, because a three-module device leaves less room for cable dressing than a two-module one.

Application Scenarios
  • Hotel guest rooms — the primary application, where the guest reads the temperature, sets it and controls the lighting from one plate, and the black finish suits a dark interior scheme.
  • Serviced apartments and executive offices — used where the occupant sets the room condition on arrival.
  • Residential principal rooms — applied where a comprehensive keypad and a room thermostat would otherwise occupy two wall positions.
  • Healthcare consulting rooms — specified where the temperature has to be visible to staff and the lighting controlled from the same place.
  • Meeting rooms — used where both services are adjusted during a long session.

Because the same device is offered in black, metallic silver, silver and wine gold, a project can keep one visual language across rooms while varying the finish to suit the interior.
