Product Description
Product Overview

The R9M80X6M is the single-phase, six-channel member of the Resi9 metering family. Its 27 millimetre width is the number that sells it: six circuits of consumption data from three modules of rail in a consumer unit that was never designed to hold metering.

Each channel works through an MTP current transformer, with a basic current of 5 amperes, a starting current of 20 milliamperes and saturation at 90 amperes, so the practical measuring window runs from a few tens of watts up to a domestic or small commercial final circuit. The meter is class 1 for active energy and class 0.5 for voltage and current to IEC 61557-12, reports active, reactive and apparent quantities, and presents everything on RS485 using Modbus RTU — the interface that most building controllers and gateways already speak.

System Integration Notes

The engineering decisions around this device are about conductor space and about what the meter is asked to prove. Its voltage circuit is 230 volts AC phase to neutral with 20 percent tolerance, its own consumption is 3 watts, and it is rated overvoltage category III and measurement category III with pollution degree 2, which places it firmly inside a distribution board rather than in a control panel.

Because the measurement is indirect, the accuracy of the installation is the accuracy of the transformers and their placement: a transformer closed around the wrong conductor, or around a bundle, gives a reading that is internally consistent and externally wrong.

The other decision is registration. Six channels invite six questions, and the useful set in a dwelling is lighting, sockets, kitchen, water heating, heat pump and one spare for a circuit that may later become a car charger — because a meter installed before the load exists is free compared with one fitted afterwards.

Application Scenarios

Six-channel single-phase metering fits dwellings and small premises where the question is which circuit is responsible for the bill. Landlords and social housing providers use it to separate landlord services from tenant consumption without a second supply, and homeowner associations apply it where shared services such as corridor lighting and lift power are recovered from a service charge.

Small shops and workshops specify it to watch refrigeration, lighting and machine sockets separately, and photovoltaic owners use it to compare generation against consumption circuit by circuit — the only way to see whether self-consumption is actually happening.

In each case the value comes from the comparison over time rather than from the instantaneous reading, so the meter should be commissioned with the channel map recorded, and the Modbus register list handed over with the installation rather than left in a manual on a shelf.
