Product Description
Product Overview

The TC4 is the smaller of the two KNX touch panels and it is the one that fits where a keypad used to be: 86 by 86 millimetres, 10.5 millimetres deep, a 4 inch capacitive display at 480 by 480 pixels behind an aluminium and glass front. It is not a thermostat with a screen bolted on. The room temperature sensor, the schedules, the scene engine and the logic gates all live in the same device, and the display is the parameter surface for all of them, which is why the panel can replace a bank of six keypads plus a separate thermostat without adding a single wire beyond the bus and a 24 volt auxiliary supply.

System Integration Notes

Three implementation details decide whether the panel behaves as specified.

  • The auxiliary 24 V DC input: the bus powers communication, not the display, so a panel installed on bus only will appear dead even though the bus is healthy.
  • KNX Data Secure, which is present on this reference and changes the commissioning sequence, because the device key has to be loaded with the project rather than left at default, and a panel replaced later without the key will not rejoin the installation.
  • The micro SD slot, which is the practical route for a consistent visual identity across a building: wallpapers, screen savers and icon sets are prepared once, written to the card, and applied on site without touching ETS.

The panel mounts on a 60 millimetre box with a mounting plate that ships in the box, so a retrofit into an existing switch box is a mechanical exercise rather than a building one.

Application Scenarios

Four inch panels are specified where the control task is a room rather than a floor.

  • Hotel guest rooms use them for lighting scenes, solar protection and temperature in one place, and the 12 function pages are enough to separate arrival, evening, night and cleaning modes without nesting.
  • Meeting rooms apply them for source selection, dimming and blind control beside the table, and the 8 schedules let the room revert to a standby state when it is not booked.
  • Residential projects use them in living areas where a wall of keypads would be unacceptable.
  • Clinics and consulting rooms use them because the code lock and cleaning function keep unauthorised changes out of the room while still allowing staff to adjust temperature.

In each case the justification is the same: one plate, one cable, and a control surface that can be redefined in software when the room changes use.
