Product Description
Product Overview

The R9MUX6M is the universal energy meter of the Schneider Resi9 PowerTag family. "Universal" here means a single catalogue number covers both three-phase and single-phase circuits, depending on which current transformers are used. With the 80 A transformer the basic current is 5 A and saturation falls at 80 A; with the 160 A or 250 A transformer the basic current becomes 10 A and saturation moves to 160 A or 250 A respectively. This allows the same meter to serve a domestic final circuit and a small commercial feeder without a second catalogue number.

It is a 3P+N device measuring 36 mm wide, 114.6 mm high and 70 mm deep. It takes its voltage reference from a 230 V phase-to-neutral supply with 20 % tolerance, and reports over RS485 using Modbus RTU at Class 1 for active energy and Class 0.5 for voltage and current to IEC 61557-12.

System Integration Notes

The reason to choose the universal version over the single-phase meter is rarely the channel count — which is six in both cases — but the ability to meter a three-phase feeder as one logical load while still allocating channels individually. On a heat pump or a small chiller, the three phases carry the compressor and the auxiliaries in a way that makes per-phase data useful for fault finding. The Modbus register map exposes voltage and current per phase as well as the aggregated power, so an unbalanced phase is visible rather than averaged away.

The same caution applies as with the single-phase unit: the transformers determine the accuracy, the conductor must pass through the core alone, and the device is rated for installation inside a distribution board at overvoltage category III and pollution degree 2 — not for a damp plant room wall. At 36 mm, the unit occupies one and a half standard devices, which is the detail that decides whether it fits the board that already exists.

Application Scenarios

Universal three-phase metering suits small commercial boards where the loads are mixed and the client wants one interface. Typical applications include:

  • Heat pump and chiller installations — separate the compressor from the auxiliary circuits for clearer diagnostics.
  • Small office boards — apply to lighting, socket, HVAC and kitchen circuits where three-phase distribution makes per-phase visibility worthwhile.
  • Retail units with three-phase supplies — refrigeration and lighting sit on different phases, so a phase imbalance becomes an early warning of a failing cabinet.
  • Workshops and light industrial units — apportion consumption between machines and general power.
  • Multi-let buildings — where a single three-phase intake serves several tenants and the split has to be defensible.

Because the same meter accepts 80 A, 160 A or 250 A transformers, a board can be re-metered later without replacing the electronics — the practical argument for the universal variant over the fixed single-phase unit.
